A Destination with a Strong Sense of Community
The Pompton Lakes Business Improvement District works to create a “place of destination” and a true “Highlands Gateway”—a warm, clean and safe downtown where people can shop, dine and stroll.
By encouraging local support and thoughtful investment, we help strengthen existing businesses, attract new opportunities and contribute to the economic vitality of Pompton Lakes.

How the BID Works
Serving Businesses. Accountable to the District.
The Pompton Lakes Business Improvement District serves designated commercial properties and businesses within the district. It coordinates programs, improvements and events that support a stronger downtown and a more welcoming experience for residents and visitors.
Board-Led Organization
The BID is guided by a volunteer board representing district and community interests, with day-to-day programs coordinated by the Executive Director.
Invested Downtown
BID programs are supported primarily through a special assessment on designated commercial properties, with funds directed to approved district services and initiatives.
Open Meetings
Monthly meetings provide an opportunity to hear project updates, learn about current priorities and participate in conversations about downtown Pompton Lakes.

A Roadmap for Pompton Lakes
The June 2026 New Jersey Business Action Center assessment recognizes Downtown Pompton Lakes' strong business mix, walkable Main Street and growing investment. It also identifies practical opportunities to make downtown more connected, accessible and welcoming.
The report provides recommendations that can help guide future BID partnerships, improvements and investment decisions.

Complete Streets Assessment
This October 2026 NJTPA and Rutgers public-meeting presentation examines Wanaque Avenue from Ringwood Avenue to Hamburg Turnpike. It identifies opportunities to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety, strengthen walkable commercial activity and incorporate green infrastructure.
Recommendations include buffered bike lanes, safer crossings, curb extensions, ADA upgrades, accessible bus stops and quick-build demonstration projects.
